Vanisha, Like you, I am also from Ipoh and I migrated to the US 25 years ago. Prior to moving to the US, I worked briefly in Penang, KL, Kuantan and Melaka. I also feel that we Ipoh folks will always have a special attachment to our hometown wherever we are, near or far. Besides food, there are so many aspects of Ipoh that are very endearing. The greenery & limestone hills, the less maddening crowd, and above all, the homey feeling that is so unique to Ipoh. I reside in Chicago, which is a magnificent world-class city, and one of the three major cities in the US (the other two are New York & Los Angeles). No matter what, Ipoh will always have a soft spot in my heart and after 25 years, I still dream about the good old days in my sleep. I have fully assimilated into American society and the western way of life, and retiring in Ipoh would not be easy because of family commitments. Nevertheless, I still hope to spend more time in Ipoh after my retirement. At this point in time, I do 'balik kampung' occasionally but these trips are short and fleeting. Each time I am back, there is so much of catching up to do, and so little time to indulge in it.
It is always nice to hear that other Ipoh folks who have relocated also share the same feelings and that is why I am baring my soul to express my thoughts here.
