I hope that plant growing on top of the building is preserved Smile

Sometime ago, I heard that the FMS is being rehab and I was full of hopes that on my next trip back to Ipoh, I can once again walk through those familiar swing doors. From the looks of it, the renovation work has either stalled or is progressing at a snail's pace. I can still vividly recall the thrill of savoring their delectable curry puffs and inchikabin chicken, and washing it down with frosted mugs of Tiger beer. Cheers to the good times and hopefully, the FMS will be fully restored to its former glory... eventually.

Ken, you are right. Whoever is doing the restoration works, is in no hurry.

I was in Old Town recently and am glad to report that more work seem to have been done on FMS, Ken. The pillars with their brickwork exposed, as seen in pics above, have been plastered up but Kayes is right to say restoration work is progressing at snail's pace! Will keep both of you abreast of work done.

Thanks Blue Grass, for the timely update on the FMS renovation project. I understand local businessman Lee Yee Tsong is spending in excess of a million ringgits to restore the FMS to its former glory. Often, the restoration of historical or heritage buildings is a labor of love and the progress can be painstakingly slow.
Let's hope the end result is well-worth waiting for. I am very excited and really look forward to see the refurbished FMS on my next trip home.

Howdy all...indeed it has been a long while since I contributed here.... I have been travelling pretty extensively and I'm still in the midst of this travelling.

Can any Ipoh-lites here update on the FMS renovation? What is it going to turn into, same as before?

I saw in the Star online paper under the thumbnail section a picture of FMS with a caption 'The Ipoh heritage building up in flames! No!'. But from what I can see its the lorry beside FMS that is on fire, not FMS. Can someone verify?

From the picture it appears that the roof is being replaced.

Hi hokin
I will go soon to see if there has indeed been any cause for alarm over this heritage building. You are right that the roof is being replaced but progress is very slow.
I'm not sure if it is true but I heard that it will be a boutique hotel. Let you know when we have definite news.

The FMS is safe and sound even though restoration is being done by snails. Here are some pics taken a couple of days ago by Blue Grass. Thanks very much Blue Grass!

Hi Hokin, all seems well at FMS. The new roof is up but restoration is terribly slow.

Hi Orange, what does the Chinese lettering on the wall say? Do please give us a translation.

Hi Blue Grass,

The single Chinese character is "Wah" and the other two with smaller point are "Bar". It is the name of this Bar and most probably part of Bar's name. It is possible there is one or two more character before "Wah". Not very sure what is the Chinese name for FMS. By the way, the word "Wah" means "Wah Yan" or Chinese (as in race).

The rear portion of the FMS building has long been restored and is inhabited. Why is the front delayed?

The back portion is quite nicely restored except for those green molds on the wall near the water piping! Sad

You are right! Every part of the rear is restored except for that bit at the lower right of pic. It looks as though the contractor died just before he could finish the job Smile

Ha ha! I think the contractor is still around, just that he wants to promote good anti-fungal paint! Smile

Wondering why they need a small square hole on the metal door which the back staircase leads to. To send food or to shake hands with the people inside? This small hole on the metal door can make one's imagination goes wild .....
