Used to be the residences of the rich and famous in Ipoh. The buildings still look beautiful but sad to see the conditions of those lovely windows and window arches .....

Hi Orange
This is Lau Ek Ching Street and this row of town houses has recently undergone some fantastic transformation. Many have been beautifully restored into beauty salons, an art gallery and pub. I will send some pics to Kayes and you will not believe how the street has been transformed! See and believe. Cheers.

Thanks Blue Grass for making the effort. Very glad that instead of being abandoned and ignored, this row of ex-beauties is now a spot for the elegant and charming.

Yes, this is Lau Ek Ching Street. I had a few friends staying along this road and I used to hang out in this area back then.

Some of these town houses have been transformed beyond recognition and I'm so glad that most have been tastefully renovated. I drove by one night hoping to take pics of Bricks and Barrels but the road was jam packed with cars and it was impossible to get a good shot. This street used to be dead at night and now it is the latest happening place in Ipoh!

.......I forgot to mention the laughter and chatter I heard as I drove slowly pass Bricks and Barrels. Wonderful to hear such happy voices.

Hi Joe
Hope you had a good Christmas with your family. It has certainly been a wet season for us this December. I wonder if it will dry up for Chinese New year. Any plans for CNY? You might want to check out several new joints in Ipoh. Ipoh beckons!
I too love the way this street has been transformed. These town houses are long and narrow but very cool even in the afternoons. I used to visit a school friend here and remember how cool her house was. They would still make lovely homes if not for the pubs and eateries. But then think of the advantage of staying so near a pub. All you need to do is stagger home after glasses and glasses of beer! Cheers Joe and a happy 2012 to you and Liz.

EB Beauty Salon is beautifully restored. Love the size & shape of the half-wood half-glass main door. Like the way they maintain the steps leading to the door, the two enchanting columns, those sweet windows and window arches. But then, prefer lace curtains instead of those hardy venetian blinds .....

The wooden fencing in front of Bricks and Barrels makes it looks like a ranch. Fabulously done!

..... stagger home after glasses and glasses of beer! Blue Grass, this reminds me of a joke in the plantation about this man who always entered the same house (not his house) after glasses and glasses of beer. Reason is all the houses in the plantation look alike. But then, why the same house (not his house) and it always happened whenever her husband (the male owner of that particular house) was away and the beautiful woman was alone in the house? ..... Wink
