I've never heard of "Little India" in Ipoh before. Is it near to Belfield Street?

hi Phoebe, it is along Belfield Street where most of the Indian shops and restaurants are. The Little India in Penang would be the area bordered by Market Street, Queen Street and King Street.

Kayes, thanks for the info. Has Belfied Street been turned into a 1-way street now? Or is it just this part shown in the above pic?

It is one-way now for the entire length, right up to the HSBC Bank and beyond.

Thanks again for the info. It's all news to me. Belfield Street's certainly been beautified to the point where I can't even recognise it.

My dad's office was along this row of shophouses. At the very corner upstairs on the right was Botley, a share market. During Deepavali, my family will go to the owner of Ganesh (Ravi, I think) for a big makan. Is the fountain in front of this row of shophouses still around?

hi dlt, the fountain is still there but I have not seen any water spurting out of it. Botley (established in the 1920s, I think) was one of the oldest stockbrokers in Ipoh and in the 1960s & 1970s it was owned by the Ngs. It has since been bought over and now absorbed by another stockbroking firm.

Soon enough, Brickfields is turning into Little India. Attractive Roman Arches with cultural motifs are being erected and many roads are being paved with beautiful terracotta tiles. Most old buildings are given new coats of paints including the apartment which Kayes once stayed. That clinic is still there and the whole apartment is painted light purple, looking sweet and new!
