In 2000, I provided details and photos to a Moscow based Russian sports magazine about the London-Sydney Marathon, which passed through Ipoh in June 2000.

Kayes, Thank you very much for the great pics taken during the London Sydney Marathon 2000. I think I spotted a Capri taking part in the Marathan. Smile

About ten years ago, I tag along when one of our friends went to Wisma Pengkalan (4th fl. Sunday car sale) in Jalan Ipoh. There was a red Datsun 240Z for sale. Due to certain reasons, my friend missed the purchase. 3 weeks later, this same Datsun 240Z was on sale in a car show room in Jalan Ampang (former Wearners' Brother petrol pump and workshop). The used car dealer did a bit of touched up and changed the tyres and the price gone up double from the original price when the car was for sale in Wisma Pengalan. My friend was so "geram"! Smile

Datsun 240Z is no doubt a beautiful car. Love this car very much. One of our local popular female radio D.J. has this car. Wonder if she still drives this fantastic car! Smile

Susan, if my business partner, Laurence Teoh, had not bought a 240Z I might have been tempted to buy one. As it was, we sometimes exchanged cars. He would take my Porsche and I his Datsun. I did ask him whether I could enter his 240Z for a motor rally but he completely ignored me. FYI, during that period in the 70s, I think the 240Z had a hattrick of wins in the Safari Rally.

Kayes, you exchanged your expensive Porsche with Datsun 240Z?..... Everyone wants to be your friend and the queue can be very long too. Smile

Any reason why Datsun cars are good for rally? Did you enter any rally with your expensive Porsche?

Susan, I bought the Porsche with the intention to learn to race with it. And I managed to persuade Harvey Yap to teach me. I wanted to be good enough to WIN a race in my class. I wasn't going to be contented with mere placings. I booked the Batu Tiga track often to practice and I did hundreds of laps there with the Porsche 911S and my race tuned Alfa Romeo Berlina. In the end, I discovered I wasn't really cut out for motor racing which needs not only skill but also plenty of guts .... you got to be the kamikaze type Smile So I started to do motor rallying which I found was less gut wrenching. Having said all that, you will now know that my Porsche was actually a "race car" and that means the car was "lightened" so that it could go quicker. I took off the airconditioning system, the stereo system, the two tiny rear seats, the passenger seat, all carpeting, spare tyre and even the glove box. I also replaced the original leather seats with a race Recaro with full harness. Therefore, when I took Laurence's 240Z and lent him the Porsche, I am not exactly sure whether he was having a good time driving around Penang in the hot sun without airconditioning and the racing suspension was really bumpy Smile!

In 1998 a Brazilian magazine interviewed me about my vintage/classic car club and also about my collection of car grille badges. I am not sure what language was used to write the article below but I assume it was Spanish.

Hi Kayes, thank you and now I know what does the interior of a race car look like.

It is a wellknown fact that you are constantly being envied and admired; not only locally but internationally! Smile

Remember went to watch a GP in Sepang (not FI), a racing car bust into flame right before our eyes. I was so shocked and stunned that my friends laughed at me. And Kayes, it was a PORSCHE!

Kayes, since you are a trained racer, how about some tips about defensive driving for drivers like me and gang! Smile

Susan, perhaps one day I will include here at Ipoh Talk what I wrote for the AAM in the 1994/95 Motoring Guide but ... it is one whole book and I am too lazy to do the typing. Meanwhile here is a page from the book about defensive driving Smile
