This is beautiful Kayes. Since you have to set up your camera and tripod before the sun actually appeared, at what unholy hour did you have to drag yourself out of bed to be ready for this photo session? Your hobby is also a labour of love!

hi Blue Grass & Joe, glad you like the pic Smile

I was almost late to catch the sunrise at the Marina yesterday because on my way there, I saw a friend trying to take pics of the sunrise from Gurney Drive. I stopped to tell him the sunrise at this time of year will be better at the Marina, near the ferry terminal but he did not know how to get there! So I waited for him to pack his tripod and camera and he then followed me in his car. We made it JIT (just in time) but there was no time for us to set up the tripods and so we shot handheld.

Kayes, you do have to be out and about early to shoot your pics and I was wondering if you hear or see many birds. This is because most mornings I wake up to a dawn chorus and this morning was no exception.
The Magpie-Robin is always the early bird and it sings a loud melodious song, a real pleasure listening to it. Then there are also the Yellow-Vented Bulbuls that are a delight as their song sounds like a bubbling chuckle!
I heard the Kingfisher screeching at the bottom of the garden and not long after, came a whinnying 'klilililili....' to mark its territory. As the morning progressed, I saw a pair of Spotted Doves feeding and to my amusement the amorous male started a slow dance around the female cooing all the while, but she would have none of it and flew off, in a huff most probably!

Blue Grass, I wear a hearing aid and so it is often difficult for me to hear birds singing which is usually high pitched and difficult for hearing aids to pick up. Unless the bird flew up to me, stood on my tripod and sang .... I would probably miss it Smile But I can tell you what I hear during my early morning photography jaunts:-

1. If I am in Tanjong Bungah photographing the sunrise, I can hear the waves beating on the shore with a melodious rhythm. I can also hear the humming from the fishermen's boats as they set out to sea. If it was a breezy morning I can hear the rustling from the palm trees.

2. If I am walking the streets of George Town early in the morning, I can hear many of the residents brushing their teeth and clearing (gargling) their throats. Some of these are distinctly melodious to my ears. Sometimes the gargling seemed so close that I was afraid I might be hit in the face if he decides to spit out the window. When the bucket system was still used in the Campbell Street/Cintra Street/Chulia Street I could hear other sounds.

Blue Grass, you not only know your flowers and plants, you also know lots about birds. A true nature lover there Smile

Kayes you tempt us to come trooping after you to hear the waves and wind in Tanjong Bungah but if you don't mind we'll give the streets of George Town a miss!

The rising sun peeps through the misty morn
Giving a ray of hope to the lost and forlorn
As the darkness of the night quietly fades away
There will be light to usher us to a another day

Nicely said Ken.

To add on :-

This precious gift of another day is here
Let us use it with spirit and good cheer.
A day to live and love, give and forgive
So grasp this day as though
It is the only day left to live!

Hi blue grass,

Superb! Those were such thoughtful words and it really puts me in a reflective mood.
